Youth Matter

I was so excited that Sunday as the youth helped us to worship the Lord. There is nothing better than having people help us to worship God. To be able to join together as a church family, and worship God, is probably one of the most exciting opportunities that we have as a Christian family. Many of the youth helped to paint the signs and have them ready for worship. They were preparing to worship. What do you do to help prepare your self to worship God on a given Sunday? When you gather to worship God there must be some forethought given to what you were going to do when you get there. You are not going to worship to be entertained, you are going to acknowledge God's presence and His power.

Many people approach worship as if it is a big show that they come and watch. Ah, but worship involves participants. And you and I are those participants. The one who is "on stage" is God. We are gathering to worship and praise God. Be thinking about what you can do to help others worship God. Be thinking before you walk through the doors into a time of worship.

Time

Time is a funny thing. Why? Well, it moves slowly and also quickly. Actually, it neither slows nor speeds up. Time passing slowly or quickly is all in our perception.
Worship at FBC.
As I approach August, I am reminded that it will have been 5 years since I was called to be the pastor of this great church. In that time, I have learned a great deal about the people who make up this wonderful church. I have also learned a great deal of the perception of our church. There still appears to be a, "oh, that is FIRST Baptist" type of attitude about us. I do not believe that that is deserved, nor has it been earned by us since I have been here. The time has come to reintroduce ourselves to our community. The younger generation does not know us. They do not know the love which dwells inside of our hearts during worship. They need to see that. They need to see us reaching out to them and to others in our community. What do they see when they look at us? Let us reeducate this town as to who we are. Let us let them know they matter to us and to God.

Worship with us!

We have started a new service on Sunday evenings. We are calling it Pursuit. We are seeking to pursue God in all of our services, but this evening service is one that is non-traditional. We use guitars and a keyboard. Tonight's service was great! I truly feel God is going to bless us as we reach out to our community.

Upward Soccer is going to be great! Come watch the kids as they play September 29th.

Helping Hands will be working again, probably on the 22nd, of this month.

Exciting things are happening at FBC. Invite a friend and be a part of what God is doing!

Keep praying!

What does God have for us next?

Pray for our church as we seek a new music leader for worship. Pray God helps us to have eyes as to who He wants for us to have.

Worship is not to be taken lightly. It's our purpose of gathering as His family on a given day. Pray we lean on His guidance in all things.

Many thanks for the many years of service that Mrs. Carolyn Thomas gave to God and to His church in Winnsboro. She has put countless hours in preparation and thought. There is a special place in the soprano section of God's choir when the time comes. I'm convinced of that! Thank you Mrs. Carolyn for ALL you have done! To God be the glory!

Roof stays in place, cameras appear

Well, the roof did not cave in today. Today was the first Sunday in which video cameras were in place and used during the service. We'll be recording the services to DVD from now on so people can watch and hear it if they miss it on Sunday. Things went well and no one got hurt. Hallelujah! Our youth sang, "God, Undefeatable" and did a fine job. They had learned it at CentriFuge this past month. I was proud of them. Even had a duet that was awesome as well.

Keep praying. God is doing some exciting things. Remember we have a special guest, May Powers, who will share her testimony with us Sunday morning, the 24th.

Also our FirstKid's Ministry started the "Theo" Video Bible Study tonight. That will be each Sunday night at 6 p.m.

Great day in the morning!

What a great day we had today. It was a great time of worship. Started the service off with a baptism and then our Minister of Music and a choir member sang, "Brethren We Have Met to Worship." It was the best way to begin a service. Wish we could start off every Sunday with a baptism!!! God is good.

Sounds like God is moving at Calvary as well. They have a few baptisms to do and they don't even have a pastor. Praise God He still moves!!!

Got the boys haircuts this past week. That went well. Took them to Donnie's Barber Shop.

Susanne has been working hard on her school stuff, Worship Team rehearsal and more school stuff. It's a bit overwhelming. The boys like school. For that I am truly thankful. Do we miss Natchitoches? Of course. Are we adjusting to life in Winnsboro? We are. It's where God has us and we'll be here until, or if, He moves us. Pray for Calvary Baptist as they seek a new pastor.
